Cryptanthus bivittatus, (commonly known as Earth star) is a small, terrestrial species of plant in the family Bromeliaceae. Reaching a height of only 6 - 8 inches and preferring moderate or diffuse light, it is commonly used in terrariums and novelty planters.

Cryptanthus is a genus of flowering plants in the family Bromeliaceae, subfamily Bromelioideae. The genus name is from the Greek cryptos (hidden) and anthos (flower). This genus has two recognized subgenera: the type subgenus and Hoplocryptanthus Mez. All species of this genus are endemic to Brazil. The common name for any Cryptanthus is "Earth star".
